The speed of movement of a magnetic field and the intensity of the magnetic field are two key factors that determine the induced voltage. The more coils in the coil, the higher the induced tension. This is because electricity and magnetism have a relationship that can be used to generate high voltages. An electromagnetic coil is an electrical conductor, such as a cable, that is wound into a spiral or helix shape.

Electromagnets are coils that create a magnetic field for external use, often to exert a mechanical force on something. When the electrical current is disconnected, the magnetic field will collapse back into the coil. Any change in electrical current (increase or decrease) will cause an equal change in the magnetic field. When the magnetic field collapses, the tension in the secondary coil will be greater than the tension induced in the primary coil.

To increase the magnetic field strength and flow, many electromagnetic coils have a ferromagnetic material such as iron at their center. Additionally, increasing the number of windings in the coil will also increase the voltage induced in it. In an ignition coil, both primary and secondary windings are wrapped around an iron core to improve efficiency. A current that varies over time in one coil (primary) generates a magnetic field that induces a voltage in another coil (secondary).

If you wrap your right hand around the magnetic core of a coil in the direction of conventional current through it, your thumb will point in the direction of where the magnetic field lines cross it. Inductors or reactors are coils that generate a magnetic field that interacts with itself to induce a reverse EMF that opposes current changes through it. A ferrite core coil is a type of coil with a core made of ferrite, which is a ferrimagnetic ceramic composite.
