Learn about special considerations when upending small or light coils with a coil upender. Find out how Mecon Industries' Toronto production facility installs its coil handling equipment prior to shipment.

Unwinding and Rewinding Coils with a Coil Upender: Considerations and Benefits

The mechanical tilter is an efficient and easy way to dump metal coils, molds, dies, and other heavy and bulky loads. It can rotate steel, aluminum, non-ferrous coils, and other loads up to 90 degrees, making it a great choice for a variety of production and maintenance applications. The pallet platform length by width is 48" x 48", while the length by width of the pallet platform is 60" x 60". The cradle length is 48".At Mecon Industries' Toronto production facility, the coil handling equipment is installed prior to shipment to ensure that it works as required.

The main purpose of the straighteners is to remove the set of coils and the bow and place the material in the accumulation circuit as needed by the feeder. The customer's coils are used to guarantee proper operation. Once installed, tests are conducted with their production material. Reel reels are commonly used in unwinding and rewinding applications because they inherently avoid material deformation problems. A motorized V-saddle (top right) can smoothly move a coil and adjust it to the pallet before tipping it over.

Mechanical reducers are available in standard configurations or can be custom designed for your particular application. Feeding a new coil through the straightener is done without opening the head of the straightener or altering the depth settings. Mecon Industries, a Toronto-based coil manufacturer, offers robust and proven designs for unwinders that require minimal maintenance and have a long lifespan. Rewinding outside the square causes problems with flatness, while rewinding partial coils streamlines and automates the stacking system. Even stacking is very important to minimize marks. Straighteners are usually placed near a non-motorized reel to extract material directly from the coil.

It can be equipped with a variety of drive and braking systems, combined with coils, pinch rollers, electric straighteners, armrests, rolling mills, or be configured as stand-alone systems. Supports mounted in pits allow platforms to be aligned with the ground to facilitate loading or interaction with workers.
